TikTok, the popular social media platform, appears to be gearing up to launch a potential rival to Instagram, as screenshots shared by users hint at a new app called TikTok Notes for photo sharing. The development has been confirmed by TikTok itself, although the app is not yet available.
Users have reported receiving pop-up notifications about TikTok Notes, described as a forthcoming app for sharing photos. According to the notifications, existing photo posts on TikTok will be automatically shared on this new platform, although users will have the option to opt out.
TikTok Confirms
A TikTok spokesperson acknowledged the development, stating that the company is exploring ways to enhance the TikTok experience by providing a dedicated space for sharing creativity through photos and text. The spokesperson emphasized that the app is still under development and not currently accessible to users.
Furthermore, evidence from the TikTok APK file suggests that the company has been working on a photo-sharing app named TikTok Photos. However, recent notifications within the TikTok app indicate a possible reconsideration of the app’s name.
TikTok vs Meta
TikTok’s move comes amidst intense competition with Meta, the parent company of Instagram and Facebook. While TikTok is venturing into photo sharing, Meta recently introduced a vertical-first video player for Facebook, underscoring the battle for dominance in the social media landscape.
Notably, TikTok has been experimenting with various formats, including longer videos and text posts, demonstrating its commitment to diversifying its offerings and retaining its user base in the face of competition from Meta.
