Apple’s much-anticipated Vision Pro headset was released on February 2 in the United States, marking a significant leap into the mixed-reality realm. Priced at $3,499 (£2,749), the high-end device has been available for pre-order for US customers since mid-January, with no confirmed launch date yet for the United Kingdom.

Ending years of speculation, Apple officially unveiled the Vision Pro headset in June 2023, positioning it as the company’s first major product release since the introduction of the Apple Watch in 2015. Boasting top-tier specifications and a premium price tag, the Vision Pro aims to make a bold statement in the rapidly evolving landscape of mixed reality technology. As Apple diversifies its product portfolio, all eyes are on this cutting-edge device, which is poised to redefine the boundaries of immersive experiences.

However, their expectations seem too high as production forecasts drop from 1.000.000 units to just 400.000.

The Specs of Apple Vision Pro

The Vision Pro is equipped with a substantial 256GB of storage, ensuring users have ample space for their mixed-reality experiences. Notably, Apple clarified that the headset’s advanced eye-tracking technology is designed to function effectively by monitoring a single dominant eye, catering to individuals who may not have full use of both eyes.

Interestingly, Apple is taking a distinctive approach to positioning its headset in the market. In communication with developers, the tech giant urged them to categorize their apps under the term “spatial computing,” encouraging a departure from conventional labels such as augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), extended reality (XR), or mixed reality (MR). In contrast, Meta, another tech giant, has taken a different approach by introducing a more affordable headset in the virtual and mixed-reality market. The Quest 3, priced at $499 in the US and £479 in the UK, aims to appeal to a wider audience. Although, they have struggled to achieve mass market appeal.
