Corporate training videos often struggle to capture the attention of employees, with many admitting to skimming through or multitasking while watching. This lack of engagement raises questions about the effectiveness of traditional training methods and the investment required to produce these videos. However, one company believes it has found a solution using generative AI technology to create more engaging and efficient training videos.
Colossyan
Colossyan, founded by Dominik Mate Kovacs in 2020, leverages AI to generate workplace learning videos that aim to hold viewers’ attention. The platform utilizes virtual avatars, which can be customized and placed against various backdrops, to deliver training content. Users simply input a script, and Colossyan’s text-to-speech engine converts it into audio, available in over 70 languages, spoken by the chosen avatar.
Kovacs, a former co-founder of Defudger, a deepfakes detection platform, recognized the growing interest in AI within the corporate sector and saw an opportunity to apply it to training videos. He believes that AI can streamline operations and enhance service delivery across various industries, including training and development.
Track Record so Far
Despite initial skepticism about the effectiveness of AI-generated content, Colossyan has attracted several notable clients, including Novartis, Porsche, Vodafone, HPE, and Paramount. These companies see value in the platform’s ability to create customizable and interactive training content, with features such as integrations with learning management systems and a “conversation mode” for dialogue between avatars.
While Colossyan’s platform has received praise for its innovation, some users have noted limitations, such as stiff and cartoonish avatars and a robotic-sounding text-to-speech engine. Additionally, the time required to generate videos may be longer than expected, with a 38-second clip taking approximately 11 minutes to create. Despite these challenges, Colossyan’s focus on interactivity and engagement sets it apart from competitors in the growing GenAI video space.
The company’s recent funding round, led by Lakestar with participation from Launchub, Day One Capital, and Emerge Education, demonstrates investor confidence in its potential. The $22 million raised will be used to expand Colossyan’s team across offices in New York, London, and Budapest and develop new capabilities, including branching videos and knowledge checks.
For C-suite and IT department leaders, Colossyan’s platform offers a scalable and cost-efficient solution to training and development challenges. By harnessing the power of AI, companies can create engaging and personalized training content that resonates with employees, ultimately driving better learning outcomes and improving overall performance.
